Femme Noire

Birthday Week #2 was a fail this year. My mood was off all week, and it was one of those weeks where I hated everything in my closet, and no outfit felt complete. This was my only look this week that was blog-worthy. The look was originally supposed to be a black blazer and black high-waisted shorts, with the scarf just thrown over my shoulder. I didn't have the right shorts though, so this is what came of the outfit. I don't really remember why I decided to wrapped the scarf around my head like this, but I was really happy with the outcome. My friend told me I was brave for walking about school like this all day. I was a little anxious about the reactions I might get from people, but I got more confident throughout the day. I like the drama that the scarf adds the whole look.

About a month ago I went to my favorite thrift store, St. Vincent de Paul and made one of the best thrift hauls ever! I got 12 pieces for under $40, including these pants and this sweater. They were almost exactly what I was looking for. I wanted a sleeveless black turtle neck that I could turn into a crop top. Distressing the sweater was a definite to give the look some edge. I really wanted a sweater that had a bigger knit so the distressing wouldn't be so stringy, but I worked with what I had. I also might have gotten carried away. I wanted the trousers because I feel like they're a closet staple because they can be worn with everything, dressed up, or dressed down. The only alteration I had to make to the pants was taking them in at the waist, but they reached the perfect spot at my waist.

This past year, I've been having a mini obsession with loafers. These are my FAVORITE. I thrifted them for $5 in January. Last week, the soles started to detach from both shoes. Luckily I had some E6000 glue. My mom suggested that I buy some new shoes, maybe for Christmas, but as long as I can repair these, I'm going to keep wearing them. The style and the black and white make these classic.

  1. The sweater caught my eye first. I love the high waist pants, you can never go wrong with those. Also, I love the head ensemble, its different.
